Morganton’s 650 Acre Backyard
Just west of Morganton, NC lies 650 acres of undeveloped land originally slated for subdivisions and housing developments. In response, a grassroots effort to protect and preserve this property was undertaken by the Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina (FCNC). Now, with the overwhelming support of the public and generous funding from multiple grants, foundations, and private donors, the Oak Hill Community Park will become a hub for outdoor recreation, education, agriculture, and archeological exploration.
In order to continue the significant momentum gained through fundraising and acquisition of the property, FCNC and Destination by Design have developed a master plan for the park prioritizing public recreational and educational opportunities.
